Munich turn focus to Dortmund clash

03.02.2009

The Bayern stars resumed training on Tuesday afternoon after two welcome days’ rest. Jürgen Klinsmann and his coaching staff called in the squad for the first workout of the week, marking the start of preparations for next Sunday’s Bundesliga fixture at home to Borussia Dortmund.

On a chilly day brightened by glorious winter sunshine, the players and coaches took to the new training pitch in the shadow of the ServiceCenter, completing a demanding session focused on speed and agility. Captain Mark van Bommel and his troops also performed some tactical exercises to round off the programme.

Lucio troubled by ankle

Stalwart defender Lucio was forced to sit out Tuesday’s session. The Brazilian turned an ankle during last Friday’s unnecessary 1-0 defeat away to Hamburg and was advised to avoid team training as a precaution. Instead, Lucio undertook stabilisation exercises in the weights and fitness area, before putting in a few laps of the training ground at the end.

According to the club medical unit, who examined and treated the 31-year-old Brazilian on Sunday and Monday, the player is not at risk of missing the weekend meeting with Borussia. Lucio himself told fcbayern.de he is not expecting a lay-off, and may even be fit enough to resume the squad programme on Wednesday.
