The successful partnership between Felix Magath and Bayern Munich is set to run until 30 June 2008 as the Bayern coach signed an extension to his current contract, which was due to expire in 2007, on Monday.
“We are pleased that this very successful partnership with Felix Magath is to continue in the future,” declared Bayern chairman
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. „I am happy to have the board’s trust and support for my work,“ commented Magath himself.
’One year is enough’
It was in the interests of both parties to extend the contract by one year. „Both parties are in agreement that a one year extension is enough“, explained Rummenigge. „During our discussions we had the impression that Felix Magath is also not interested in a completely new contract as a security blanket. He wants to stay here for as long as he is successful.”
In his first years at Bayern success has been a faithful companion to Magath. Under his leadership the Reds won the double in two successive years, a feat which no other Bundesliga coach has achieved. “We are very happy with Felix”, confirmed Rummenigge.
Successful but hungry for more
Nonetheless, Magath’s hunger for success remains. “Together, the club and I have had a very successful two years. But we don’t want it to stop there”, said the 52-year-old, “I will do everything in my power together with the team to build on our past triumphs and, with a new, younger team maybe even achieve a bit more.”
